This is something of a grey area to me when I read guides, on the best approach to training them. I haven't found any clear info on this, so best I can do is common sense.Obviously the 'Long Distance' skill is important near the start to open up more jobs. And of course training at least 1 in the other skills early on, except for 'Eco Driving' can wait. The problem is return trips. There is never a problem to find outgoing trips. But for the driver to find trips back to their 'home' which they always return, seems to be 50/50.My few drivers I have are not high enough level so I can't confirm anything, but this is my idea. If a driver was trained with a couple points in 'Long Distance', at least 1 point in the other categories to unlock them, and concentrate on maxing out 'ADR', that should technically open up the most jobs for the return trip?

'Long Distance' technically only effects the 'outgoing' trips, so should have no effect on finding a job for the return trip, which is why I would suggest 'ADR' to be maxed after other job opportunites are unlocked.TLDR;Hired Drivers: Long Distance 2, rest of skills 1 to unlock, rest ADR to maximize chance of finding job on return trip?Anyone with drivers with high enough skills, do you still have trouble with them returning empty?.edit. This is all based on my assumption that they only try and locate a job within the current town they are in. If they do not find one there, they simply return empty. Originally posted by bulwark5. But for the driver to find trips back to their 'home' which they always return, seems to be 50/50.You are absolutely correct! But. Jobs for hired drivers are picked at random controlled only by a probability setting and consider only that driver's skills along with the requirement that the job must have as a destination the hired driver's assigned garage.

Return

A hired driver must return to his 'home' garage, he cannot take a job to another city. However, there is an error in the configuration files that sets the probability that a driver does not find a return job. That error sets the probability at 0.5, that's right, it's 50% probable that a return job is found. There are Mods to fix that error. I believe the intended probability is 10% that a return job is not found. Several Mods fix that error and one Mod sets it to 0%. Don't use 0% as that causes drivers to sit and do nothing when return jobs are really not available which apparently can happen. It can be argued that the 50% setting is not an error but just looking at the configuration file one can see that there is a 10% setting line which is overridden by that 50% setting line. I'm saying that it certainly looks like an error and 50% seems to me to be a little high. The hired driver's home garage may make a difference in the quality (read: higher paying) of jobs they can get in their home city.

For example if the home city has 4 or 5 job sites it may be more likely that there are more high paying jobs offered at the home garage. Remember that a hired driver MUST return to their home garage, a home city with more job sites is more likely to be a destination from wherever the driver's job took them to.The hired driver's home garage location may have an effect on the jobs offered both originating in the home city and return jobs. Picking a garage with a central location means there will be more possible destinations so there will be more opportunity for high paying jobs.I am not absolutely convinced that these principles actually apply, it is more than likely that jobs picked for hired drivers are completely random and does not consider any of these factors.I can say that in my game my best performing garages are both (moderately) centrally located and are located in cities with 4 or 5 job sites. My best performing garage for low and mid level drivers is Berlin. However, it should be noted that cities near the edges of the map would be best for higher level higher skilled drivers who have a long distance skill of 4 or 5. It should be obvious that really long distance jobs (that pay the highest) can only be offered from cities near the edges of the map. Liverpool and Bratislava consistently offer the highest paying long distance jobs for example. Once one of my hired drivers gets to level 3 or 4 in long distance skill I transfer them to a garage at the edge of the map where they do seem to improve their earnings.

I'm sure it's most likely random based off of probabilities.

Also interesting method you have for transferring your drivers, which improves their earnings. I'll keep that in mind once I actually own more than 1 garage. As your drivers level up, their chance of finding a job increases. It doesn't really matter what you put their skill points into-this will only change the value of the jobs they get if they win the dice roll. With the way things are currently, it almost makes more sense to totally avoid points in long distance until the very end since long distance jobs will result in higher costs if they don't get a return job.TL;DR: Leveling ADR first is a good idea, just not for the reason you think. To me, they should have an algorithm that finds a job that reduces the distance between the far point of the outgoing job to the 'home' base.

For example, let's say their base is Aberdeen and they do a job to Bratislava - if they don't find any job back to Aberdeen they should take a job to Edinburgh; if not there, a job to Newcastle, and so on. Once they get to Edinburgh from the return trip, the computation is made again - if there is no job to Aberdeen at that point, THEN they can dead-head it back to their base.In real life, if I had an employee that didn't do this, they would not be an employee for very long.
